Best and Worst: Natural Collection Make-up Review
00:00If I say “Boots Natural Collection” to you, what springs to mind?
For me, it has to be the budget-friendly price tag.We all love a good bargain and when it comes to Natural Collection you have hit the jackpot. 1 item for less than £2 or 3 for £5.
What are the best makeup items from Natural Collection ?
Corrector Stick
This can be used on spots or onto rosy skin. It can be applied directly from the stick, with a brush or mixed into your foundation or moisturiser. It blends easily to neutralise my cheek redness and is great under and on top of foundation. If you have darker skin you may find this is ashy but if you are pale, like me, it will be easily disguised. As for staying power, I did notice it wearing off after a couple of hours and my redness peaking through but I did not expect it to last much longer for the price. There are similar dupes to this on the drugstore but why pay more for something exactly the same.
Cover up stick
I was really pleased with this product. I purchased shade medium, which was far too dark for me, but boots also sell another shade 'Fair' which would have matched my skin better. I do find that with Natural Collection face products that there is a poor shade range, which is a shame. This concealer is creamy, therefore easy to blend and will help to disguise blemishes and under-eye circles. You can apply the concealer direct from the stick, be careful though as many have experiencing the concealer breaking this way, or by using a concealer brush or your fingers. The coverage will decrease the appearance of under eye circles or blemishes but unfortunately won't cover completely. The colour pay off is great with this concealer as a little bit will cover to the best of its ability. I did find with the shade Medium that it oxidised to an orangey tinge, which was disappointing. As for staying power, I did notice it wearing off and looking more dry and cakey looking after about 3 hours of wear but it is expected for this £2 price tag. To prolong staying power I would suggest setting with a powder.
This concealer gives great coverage for the price, but if you are wanting something that will last longer and cover more then it is worth paying a few extra pounds to get a better quality concealer.
Face Powder
This powder is great for mattifying shine and setting your make up but you will need a lot of product to do so. The powder itself isn't that pigmented to touch and the colour pay off to the brush isn't great either. In trying to apply more product to the brush, a lot of the product ands up around the rim of the pan. The powder has a very light coverage. If you are wanting it to remove oil then this is great but if you are wanting to add extra coverage to your foundation then a different powder is best.
Eyeshadow Duos
The great thing about these eyeshadows is that even at an affordable £1.99 these shadows are pigmented, but not too intense that they don't go by their 'natural' name. The shadow is also easy to blend out to get the look you want to achieve but often can be blended out so much that it is no longer seen, obviously fixed by applying more. If you do want a more intense, or long lasting, look this can be achieved by applying a primer underneath. These shadows alone will last without creasing for approximately 4 hours.
Colour Foundation
This foundation is great for if you are starting out but not so much if you are experienced with foundation. The main problem I had with this foundation was that it was too dark for me. If you can find a shade that matches then you have fought half the battle already.
This foundation has the coverage to cover up redness but will not last. It fades quickly and unfortunately it faded patchy.
Body Spray
Natural Collection Body Sprays retail for approximately £2 and are amazing. Not only do they smell great the scent will last for a couple of hours too. Some may find the scents too sweet but I find the sweetness helps to wake you up and cool you down in the summer heat.
Lipgloss
These lip glosses are described as giving you intense colour. I disagree with this. These lips glosses are coloured but apply soft and give you colour to your lips that is sheer. The lip gloss itself, at first, does feel sticky but fortunately the stickness does disappear, along with this though goes the colour, though moisture is still left and your lips feel ‘touchably smooth'. Frequent reapplication is required.
Unfortunately the colour range of this brand is limited,Fair and Medium, therefore if you have olive or darker skin, there won't be a shade for you. This concealer has a light-medium coverage which is best for under the eyes but can also cover fainter blemishes. It dries quickly once it has been applied but once blended, you will be left with a non cakey matte finish. In saying this, if too much of this concealer is applied; it will look cakey.
Because of the matte finish, setting the concealer can be hard to blend and work with. The concealer will averagely last for 2-3 hours and will require 'touching up'. I also find that this concealer will oxidise and will develop a slight orange tinge. If you need a cheap concealer for light under eye bags then this will cover but it it isn't for heavy duty concealing.
The pigmentation of Peach Melba, for a £2 blush is surprisingly good. It has good pay-off when swatching it but even more so on the cheeks leaving a lovely peachey/pink colour. It feels slightly chalky to swatch but this doesn't translate onto the cheeks. Overall this blush leaves a natural, matte sheen. This also lasts well on the cheeks, about 5-6 hours and doesn't fade off in patches.
The Lowdown
Best - Corrector Stick, Concealer Stick, Peach Melba blush and Cover up Cream
Worst - Colour foundation
