Affordable Alternative to the Emma Hardie Cleansing Balm? Superdrug Coconut Oil Review

11:55

Today I am going to talk about another product I recently featured in my haul and a new love of mine, Superdrugs Coconut Oil. I don't think I anticipated to like this as much as I do as I just picked this up on a whim when it was on offer but I've picked up a gem with this!

Superdrug Coconut usually retails for £2.30 but I picked it up on offer - 2 for £3 which is an absolute steal really for the 125ml that you get as you only ever need the smallest amount.

Being 'coconut' oil, this smells amazing and its scent lingers so wherever you use it you smell fabulous! A great thing ( there are many!) about this is its multiple uses. It helps to condition the skin, scalp and dry or damaged hair and the packaging has various methods of using this, melting the solid oil and using it as desired.

For me I use it for a different method that stated on the packet, I use it as a balm cleanser - genius right!? Everybody raves about the Emma Hardie and various others but I'm a student who cannot justify £40 to wash my face so wash so happy when I found my perfect use for this.

To use this as a balm cleanser I use a tea spoon, or my finger, to scoop out a 5p sized around onto my palms and rub my hands together into it melts into an oil ( photographed above). I then massage my face with my hands and also ( correct me if I shouldn't be doing this) spread some of the oil onto my eyelashes to dissolve any remaining mascara after using eye makeup remover ( or sometimes without using eye makeup remover) and massage my face for 20 seconds until I can feel the makeup dissolve with the oil. I then cleanse the oil off using either a muslin cloth or a soft flannel soaked in warm water until the majority of the oil is removed. Usually I just leave my skin after this but be warned that it will leave an oily residue unless you wash your face twice but I don't mind this as I have dry skin and find it helps to keep my skin moisturised. If you wanted to, you could follow this will a face wash or toner or a moisturiser.

Whichever order you choose to use this in, it is EXCELLENT at removing makeup. In fact, I think that this is he best 'cleanser' I have used for removing makeup. It is so effortless ( well not harsh scrubbing my skin anyway) and effective and my skin is left so soft, smooth and makeup free afterwards. I have definitely put buying the Emma Hardie on hold because I have this.

Have you tried this as a Balm Cleanser? What do you use Coconut Oil for?

P.S I'm going to be at the #fabbbloggersmanc meetup today so if you see me please come and say hi or tweet me (@CosmticLover) and let me know you are there!

  10. Hi chick, I will be reviewing this product at some time in the near future, I bought 4 tub of this! I haven't used it as a balm wash yet, but I do use it on my hair quite a lot, I usually pop the tub in a bowl of hot water so its easier to get out and slather a load on my hair, tie it up in a bun and go to bed. I usually cover my pillow with an old pillowcase and leave the oil overnight to work its magic! The next morning I shower it out of my hair (rinse for as long as you like and I shampoo twice) and use a small amount of conditioner. The results are stunning! My hair is left smooth, moisturised and silky. Highly recommended for a deep conditioning mask, and always make sure to massage into your scalp as it promotes good blood flow to keep your hair strong and shiny :) Great blog!
